Amaliric uses Dark Magic, which he refers to as 'The Magus'. Each of the three Magus focuses on a different aspect of fighting. Gaspar, in it's basic form, is an orb, that he uses for support. He uses it to adapt to any situation. Melchior, in it's basic form, is a long lance, that he uses for attack. It is his combative form. Belthasar, in it's basic form, is a disc, that he uses for defense. It is his guard form.
He can also mix and match, using two of the three forms at once, though to less power and effect. Usually, he does this with the Disc and Lance, as pictured below.
Gaspar's Gate
The basic form of his magic, Gaspar's Gate is a black orb, that can be changed in size. He can use it, to redirect such things, as projectiles, sent at him. It works on magic too, but to a lesser extent. It also only works on objects that are solid. Any liquid or un-concrete object or element, cannot be taken into the Gate, giving him a huge disadvantage against fire and water, as opposed to his strength against earth and ice.
The larger he makes the orb, the harder it gets to control the ability, making this a skill he uses with great hesitation, even to protect himself from arrows or the less common bullets.
Melchior's Lance
The offensive form of his magic, Melchior's Lance is a smaller black orb, than Gaspar's Gate, that can be focused into a beam that can change direction three times before making contact with the enemy. It is a quick attack, that works much like a bullet, albeit, leaving a trail of black magic behind it, showing it's path and trajectory. The downside, is that it is hard to control, having a mind of it's own, when it comes to 'protecting' it's user.
When it senses a greater magic force, than what it is targeting, it has a habit of veering off, and attacking the magic force, instead of the intended target. If fighting alongside another mage, he makes sure they aren't casting, when he starts it, in order to protect his partner.
Belthasar's Disc
The defensive form of his magic, Belthasar's Disc is a flat, black disc that floats above his arm or hand, and is used to redirect or nullify anything that comes near him. Unlike Gaspar's Gate, it can block un-concrete things, such as fire or water, but cannot be moved, at will, if they redirect. It redirects magic, usually, and stops or destroys any projectile or weapon that makes contact. It has an alternate form, in which he can throw it like a buzz saw, that slices through anything it touches, but after flying about 10 yards, it breaks apart.
On rare occasions, he can combine Belthasar's Disc, as a shield on his right arm, while charging and firing Melchior's Lance, although the Disc loses it's full defensive capability, and the Lance cannot be redirected. It is unknown if he can use the Disc, in combination with Gaspar's Gate, but the Disc is the least taxing of his three forms.
