Name:
Corina Lucifer
Age:
17
Gender:
F
Alignment:
Lawful Good
Eyes:
Green
Hair:
Blonde
Personality:
Corina is fairly amiable to people, even those who ask about her blindness in the rudest ways. She is rather difficult to offend, and keeps a professional stance to work, never allowing her emotions to take over her in battle. Doing so will lead to defeat, and quite possibly, death. The knight is eloquent and prefers formal speech, only rarely slipping into the use of contractions. It might have something to do with her oratory leanings as well. Due to her upbringing, she holds honor, justice, and righteousness above all else, even her own life. As such, it isn't surprising that she is willing to fight to the death to protect these virtues.
Physical Description:
Corina and the Knights of Teppelin
Sparring. Believe it or not, the one on the left is also a Knight of Teppelin
"The noble lion, King of Beasts. A gravely misunderstood creature who can be kind and loving as any dog, if you just give him a chance."
"The moon is a harsh mistress. She will not speak of her beauty to those who cannot for themselves see it, nor will she go out of her way to remind those who have forgotten its splendour."
"When your back is against the wall, the only thing left for you to do is..."
"... advance and retake your lost position!"
"A thousand petals can fall to a single gust of wind. Though my eyes are dead to their lustrous flights, my ears can hear them peacefully rustle, and my flesh can feel their smooth complexion."
Occupation:
Rank B Magic Knight
Guild:
Shrike Teppelin, Looking for Guild
Location of Guild Tattoo:
Bellow her left collarbone, faded
Specialty:
*Blind Fighting - Corina has been heavily conditioned to let go of her dependence on her sight, and to rely more on her other senses, which have drastically improved to compensate for her blindness. Her hearing, in particular, makes an effective substitute for sight with regards to combat. She can hear any movement within a thirty-foot radius, which is certainly very helpful in fighting, as well as not bumping into anybody by accident. Corina, however, is not a bat. Anybody standing absolutely still is effectively invisible to her, as is anything beyond thirty feet. Of course, she doesn't tell anybody about this, leaving it up to them to figure it out. On the other hand, visibility is no issue to this blind knight. Corina can fight just as well in pitch blackness and thick fog as she can on a clear sunny day.
*Light Magic
*Charisma - Corina is especially charming. A convincing orator who can stir up crowds as well as she can stir up a single person. Her overall image and gallantry make her highly respectable by authorities and people of honor alike. This does not come up as being particularly too straight of an arrow, however, and even a few outlaws will tell you that she doesn't look like a 'high and mighty' type. Not even the savage beast is immune to her charms.
History:
Greetings and salutations, friend. I might not be able to see you, but I have other senses, other ways, to tell that you are there.
My story is not so interesting as to garner your attention, so I am at least hoping, that the unusual sight of a blind person bearing a knight's sword and armor as she roams the countryside will suffice. My story begins seventeen years ago, in a castle to the East. For centuries, my family, the House Lucifer, has held a proud heritage of knighthood. With it, the ceremonial suits of armour, and the familial sword, Danwyn, have likewise, continuously been passed along.
The House Lucifer has enjoyed a quiet, low-profile pseudo-fame over the ages. Our armour is generic enough that it does not stand out amongst that of other magi, and we are not so pretentious as to parade around and brandish our family seal whenever we perform chivalrous acts. Those who know of us will only learn of who we are if we choose to tell them, and those who do not can give their thanks to general goodness. We take what due credit is given to us, but we do not go out and seek it. Does it matter who performs a good deed, as long as it is done?
The Council itself will tell you of our illustrious performance record. Regardless of whether we take part in a large, magnificent guild, or a small, relatively feeble group that needs a boon to its name, the reports will echo of the same nobleness and heroism that we enacted. Their ability to track down even the most anonymous Lucifer, however, boggles my mind to no end. How do they do it? Well, perhaps that is a question to be answered some other time.
As the third child of the House Lucifer, I had no business inheriting this knighthood. By family law, that honour went to the firstborn. Instead, I was destined to a future of attending parties, and galas, and balls, and many more forms of social gatherings than you can shake a stick at. But, this projected future of mine was not meant to be. My elder siblings, Octavian and Gracia, were both struck down in a horrible and untimely manner.
A carriage riding accident, some said. Others, claimed foul play and plotting. But regardless of the case, when the time came to raise a child to take up the family's honour, the next person standing in line was myself. I cannot say that I was the best at learning the ways of the knight. My mistakes were many, but the number of my injuries was twofold. I would tell you about how I lost my sight, how, after losing my patience at my trainer during a sparring match, I focused all of my power into the most blinding flash imaginable - entirely against my trainer's warnings, I might add - but that would likely bore somebody as you who wishes to move on.
The damage to my eyesight was more long-term than I had thought. It in fact, degraded greatly over the next few weeks after that incident, until one day, ten years ago, I woke up in a panic. My eyes were quite open, and yet, I saw nothing. Three days and nights, I spent crying, devastated over the fact that I had failed to even earn the right to bear the family's honour. What good was a blind knight on the battlefield? Father, loving as he was, had been kind enough to remind me that sight was but one of five senses available to a person. He was also generous enough to bring to my attention, the fact that when one sense atrophied, the rest would improve to compensate for its loss.
My training continued as planned. In the span of a few years, moving and fighting with complete reliance on my other senses was as natural to me as was breathing. Just as Father had said, with enough conditioning, sight was truly something that was not wholly necessary. I learned much from training and playing with the Lion we kept in an enclosed space of the courtyard. We call him Ywain. Why we do, is excess baggage that need not be explained.
Not long after my fourteenth birthday, I was sent into the city, to a certain address, via specific instructions. Soon enough, I found myself at the door of what was once a grandiose and splendid guild, a guild ravaged over the past ages by the betrayal of a group of its members.
Shrike Teppelin.
My objective was simple. To join this guild, and help it regain its former glory, take back what it had lost, restore its honour. I was granted an audience with their aging Guild Master, the respectable Algernon, who gave me a chance to speak my case. Many were skeptical of my usefulness to them. I could understand why. How could a blind knight serve any purpose in the guild, if her handicap impaired her in the very field she was involved in? Some had eventually relented to my arguments, however. A plea to the guild's policies of equal opportunity. And that was all I needed.
Within a year, I had accomplished a probationary period that had been tasked of me; greatly surpassing their expectations, I might add. That was perhaps the highlight of my life. Being accepted into a guild, as was the first step in any Lucifer's career. A banner to carry, and an objective to serve. On the day of my admission, I was approached by Algernon, who said that for people such as myself, knights who strove to uphold rightousness in the world, there was a special group within their guild. One of Shrike Teppelin's elite branches.
The Knights of Teppelin. Perhaps you've heard of them at one point? A gallant corps of noble warriors who defended the honour of the mother guild and dispensed justice within its realm of influence. I was one of them. The past tense usage not being because they had cast me out. Far from it, in fact. Why would they dispose of somebody who had just earned the right to join their ranks, after all? No, my membership was completely valid, if short lived. For you see, the Knights of Teppelin are no more. This time honoured gentry as old as the mother guild itself dissolved with the mother guild's passing. That was two years ago.
The House Lucifer, upon learning of this tragic event, cast me out once more into the world, no more than a day after I delivered the news. I was to find a guild for myself, they said. As was House Law, should one fail their assigned guild in any manner, and thus be released from their duties to that guild, they were to seek membership elsewhere. Conditionally, this time around, the seeker would not be given support, and had to find their next guild by themselves. Independence is valued greatly in the House Luficer, you see.
It could be seen, in a way, that I had failed my task of restoring glory to Algernon's guild. Some had begged to differ from the opinion, of course, viewing it as simply having been an untimely admission. That it was already too late to do anything about it. However, as this was never given a consideration in the House Law, then there was nothing else to enact. I was sent out with no ill will, my honour to the family having remained relatively intact. I was stripped of no titles, no privileges. It was by no means my fault, but there simply was no law that covered such a situation.
And so, here I am now, standing before you a Knight-Errant with no squire, and no sight. Would you please be so kind as to direct me to any guilds with openings nearby? Every other one I have found so far has refused to admit me to their roster despite my impressive displays of skill. Maybe I should think of talking to them more often or something. Well, whatever. I'm most certain that my lot will improve over time. I just have to continue searching.

Positive Traits:
Think of any positive trait a knight has. Brave? Check. Chivalrous? Check. Honorable? Check. Selfless? Check. Puts the Greater Good above her own? Check.
Negative Traits:
She's blind. As in, can't see anything. She wouldn't know somebody 31 feet away was pointing a bow in her direction until the arrow flies in. Should Corina run into a dilemma of choosing between what is good and what is lawful, expect hesitancy as she considers which choice to make. As restricted to Lawful Good, answers that are obvious to Neutral Good characters are not as obvious to her.
Skills:
Flash Bang
"Without any further adieu, I shall now have you start a brief journey... into my world."
A powerful flash created by focusing high levels of light into Danwyn's blade that is detonated on command. The blinding flash extends in a five meter radius at a brightness of 10 million Candela that oversaturates the retina of anybody within the blast area, causing flash blindness. This effect can be described as having your vision 'paused', in the specific case of the technique's brightness, for around five seconds or so. Being already blind, Corina is immune to its effects.
Flash Burn
"How's about you have a taste of the power of the sun?"
Corina lobs a ball of super-concentrated ultraviolet light at a target that explodes on impact. Though no knockback is caused, since it is merely light, it is capable of instantly causing third-degree burns on a naked or lightly-clothed target and second-degree to first-degree burns on a target wearing thick clothing. The attack is easily blocked by leather, plate armor, generally anything that is unlike fabric, solid. The light will naturally seep through any cracks, however. As with any type of light, this can also be countered through the use of reflective surfaces like mirrors. Effective up to thirty feet, after which point the ball dissipates.
Flash Break
"The die is cast. The light of righteousness itself shall be your judge!"
The first tier of one of the higher, more refined magics of the House Lucifer. Light is taken not just from the user's magical stores, but also from the surrounding area, typically within a ten meter radius, assuming there are no walls, in which case, the portion of the room that is within ten meters. As light travels at the speed of, well, light, this 'sponge' effect is invisible to all but the user, who concentrates the light and focuses it around Danwyn's blade. The exception is in environments with little illumination, where the absorption of surrounding light causes the area to darken. For all cases, but especially in well-lighted places, the most visible warning that this technique is being used is that the sword starts to glow. The ultimate result is a single stroke that has a 'lightsaber effect' to it.
Use of the technique is highly stressful and reduces the user's overall combat effectiveness by more than half. After all, it is meant to be a decisive move expected to hit a target in an incapacitating or disarming way (read: Non-Lethal). The one member of the House Lucifer who killed somebody with it was summarily arrested and given a sentence viewed to be worse than death, despite his argument that it was accidental.
The less light there is within the given area, the more light has to be taken from the user's magic stores in order to meet the quota. In pitch blackness, the user has to supply all of the light, in which case, depending on the user's stamina, he or she may outright collapse into unconsciousness after its use. Corina's stamina is such that she is reduced to a barely standing, but still conscious state.
Higher forms of the spell class alleviate its limits to various degrees, but that's another story.
Equipment:
Danwyn
Its name now corrupted from its most ancient form of "Ddantgwyn", this sword has been passed down the House Lucifer for generations as a means of carrying out justice. Infused with a spell that immunizes it to wear and tear, its blade is as sharp today as it was hundreds of years ago. This spell also covers the heat brought about by any manner of enchantment known in the family that should befall it.
It is, however, not impervious to intentional damage, such as being smashed by a warhamer. In light of this, Danwyn has admittedly been repaired and reforged several times over the generations. Not that the House Lucifer is ashamed of that, or anything. They count the number of times it has been destroyed as a matter of pride, regarding each as a heroic sacrifice in the name of righteousness.
If there is one true family secret ever passed down about Danwyn, it is the name of the blacksmith clan charged with its repairs: "Gofannon".
